Functional Recipes

Here you will not find the tastiest recipes on the internet.  Nor will you find the healthiest recipes on the internet.  You also won’t find the most efficient recipes for feeding a large family.

You will, however, find recipes that meld together the above characteristics in such a way that they have become staples in our family.

We didn’t simply stop eating the standard american diet.  We transitioned away from it over a period of time.  Through experimentation, trial and error, we established a system of procurement, favorite dishes, and reliable vendors that facilitate our current way of eating.  Today our diet is mostly wheat-free, mostly low carb, and emphasizes real food with meat at the center of most meals.  However, we also dissect our priorities with Occam’s Razor, realizing that the occasional Costco pizza is an easy, affordable, enjoyable break for our kids from the typical fare of meat, veggies and spices.  The benefit of being able to periodically rely on a few less than optimal foods outweighs any negative consequences, especially since no one in our family appears to have allergic reactions to any type of food.

As I add recipes to the blog, I will post all the links below.

First, our favorite breakfast that is gluten-free and can easily be dairy-free.

Mexican meatloaf.  Very awesome and super easy to make and freeze.

Oatmeal bake can be made ahead of time and you can feed an army.

Power coffee works great for those who prefer to skip breakfast but do better with some fat calories on board in the morning.  It’s a more economic version of Bulletproof coffee.

We love our sweet potatoes, but when we get bored of the standard means of preparation, switch over to sweet potato jerky.

More to come…
