My name is Mike. I am a father of 6 living in rural northwest Washington State.   In addition to writing about my struggles and victory over my weight, I also write about other things.  Or at least I plan to.

  • Faith: We are confessionally reformed Christians
  • Homeschooling: We homeschool all our children and intend to do it through high school (Lord willing)
  • Nutrition: See above: it’s quite a commitment to come under conviction about food quality in feeding a family of this size
  • Crossfit: We do crossfit (yes, all of us)

Another bullet point separate up there needs to be recipes. Technically that can fall under nutrition, but I think it merits its own bullet point. In fact, if you run out of time and still want to post something, you should just re-post your egg cupcakes and your sweet potato snack posts on here.

Oh plenty of recipes are coming. That’s part of the plan.

  3. I like that you’ve started this journey via real life & journaling it. Little sidenote might be to add the lady who makes those babies & happy husband possible:)

We are a crossfitting, homeschooling, reformed family of 10 and live in the mountains of Colorado. It would be fun to visit sometime!

I can’t believe I just now noticed this comment. I love Colorado. My wife and I have always thought Colorado Springs would be a fun place to live. Good to know our family has an analogue there!

Come visit! We are an hour and a half from the springs! We are involved in a reformed church plant.

  5. I was looking for a sweet potato jerky recipe so I could make sweet potato jerky like the stuff that came into the Tab room, when I stumbled upon this site, Mike!

This is great. I have had a sweet potato in my refrigerator waiting for me to finally get around to trying out a recipe.

Your Sweet Potato jerky is a great snack. Thanks for sharing!

    See you at Regionals perhaps!?

As only God would have it, I ran across your page today. I lead a group called The Health Team within my church called CrossWay, in St. Charles, MO. We meet and share ideas about how health, fitness and faith can help to make our body ‘a living sacrifice’. I was trying to come up with a slogan for us to use as a shortened motto of sorts. I fell on the idea of templestrong a couple of weeks ago and as I was preparing to ask our pastors about using it, I thought I would look up to see if it was being used for anything else. Hence my visit to your page. While I was pleasantly surprised to find the name being used to promote health and Christian values, I was even more surprised about your story. Like yourself, I am a Christian that was saved in my early adulthood. I am a father of 2 with one on the way so I can definitely appreciate your family values and passion for healthy living. Even funnier to me was that I am also a CrossFitter that has lost a significant amount of weight (90-100lbs) and with the help of our Lord I have changed my life all the way around. Anyway, congrats to you, your wife and your family. Good to see people with so much in common. If you are ok with it I would like to use templestrong for our church group motto! I will tell them about your blog.
